The fleet-footed, bright Goddess of the Rainbow, Iris acted as a divine messenger of the Gods and served Hera, Queen of Olympus, in particular. She could often be seen carrying messages between heaven and earth, her glorious cloak of many colors trailing always behind her.
This painting was made using the amazing stock of , and the model, Jen, is unchanged in appearance, as a bit of a portrait. I thought the Goddess of the Rainbow would be a fitting tribute to Lisa and Jen, whose modeling and photography are such an amazing resource and inspiration!
I love the scarf! You know, there is a beautiful scarf dance by Isadora Duncan that is a tribute to Iris. This painting reminded me of when I performed it last spring.
